Coworking is a community of like-minded professionals who share the perks of working in an office environment while retaining independence and flexibility. Coworkers require work space that fits their needs – either a few days per month, specific days of the week or a full-time office away from home. Coworking spaces and amenities vary. Group88 offers a professional but comfortable atmosphere to conduct business, meet with clients and share ideas.
Coworking began in the IT and creative world as developers and independents became tired of working solo or in noisy coffee shops. More info can be found at PB Coworking Wiki and on Google Groups. Other coworking groups across the U.S. can be found on Google.
The Hartford Business Journal wrote up a fantastic piece for their Women in Business issue, titled “Coworking Trend Comes To State: Urban Office Sharing Concept To Launch in Simsbury.” Also in March 2008, The New York Times did a great piece on coworking and some of the hopping spaces across the U.S. titled, “They’re Working On Their Own, Just Side By Side.”
Syndicate TV broadcasters also did up a piece featuring Indy Hall Philly pal Alex Hillman, coworking founder Brad Neuberg and some members in this great clip which aired in several affiliates across the U.S.
